How to be boring...and how we can avoid it

The other day, I made the mistake of confusing politeness with interest. A friend asked me for my secret to growing African violets.

Five minutes later, after I told her all about the soil, and the watering regimen, and propagating full plants from a single leaf, I noticed that her eyes were glazed over and that she was throwing furtive glances at the door.

Apparently, she wasn't really asking. She was just making small talk.

Oops.
